Although welding was initially applicable for temporary ship repair of damaged steel hulls, underwater welding has since become an accepted standard form of underwater construction and repair using structural engineering methods. Other applications for underwater welding include repair of offshore structures, submerged marine pipelines and underwater port facilities, among others.
